NO means NO
Repeatedly, there are perpetrators who believe that they can derive “rights” from this if, for example
- you let someone take you home
- you invite someone “for a coffee”
- you allow yourself to be invited
- affection has already been exchanged
No victim is responsible for a sexual assault.
- You have the right to say NO clearly and decisively at any time.
- If you act early and clearly, misunderstandings are less likely to occur.
Defend yourself or not?
Always try to escape from dangerous situations before things get out of control.
Therefore, try to notice and escape from a developing conflict as soon as possible.
If this is no longer possible, the so-called 'shrill alarm' is a very good way to help yourself. This also applies to the use of a well-functioning whistle, usually made of metal. This loud alarm startles the perpetrator, at least briefly, and interrupts his actions. Take advantage of this moment to free yourself from the constellation and leave it. In addition, the loud noise attracts attention and you are more likely to get help and support.
When purchasing a shrill alarm, please make sure that it has a noise level of at least 120 decibels.
In order to be able to use this shrill alarm quickly and efficiently, we recommend using it in combination with an alarm bracelet.
If it is no longer possible to escape safely, we strongly advise you to fight back. Experience has shown that this is very often successful and stops the perpetrator from continuing his actions. However, you must decide for yourself whether and what form of resistance is possible. This decision depends, for example, on whether you
- are in a position to defend yourself physically
- can expect help, e.g. by shouting
- see an opportunity to escape and have the confidence to do so
- are calm enough to dissuade the perpetrator from his plan by talking and asking questions
If you defend yourself, then use all the forces and means at your disposal.
Clearly draw attention to yourself!
Whom can you contact?
